still learning
One of the hardest things in life is learning who you are without letting everything that has happened to you define you.
Life has a way of changing us. Loss changes us. Friendship changes us. Disappointment, love, rejection, success, loneliness, all of it leaves something behind right. At times those experiences reveal parts of ourselves we never knew existed. Other times, they make us question the person we thought we were.
Understanding yourself means being willing to look inward without always looking for someone else to blame or save you. It means recognizing your patterns: what makes you withdraw, what makes you angry, what you tolerate too long, what you fear losing, and why certain things affect you so deeply.
Also it requires compassion, you are allowed to recognize that some versions of yourself were simply trying to survive what life was giving you at the time.
The beautiful thing is that life doesn’t only shape us through pain. It also gives us opportunities to choose differently. To become softer without becoming weak. To establish boundaries without becoming cold. To love people without losing ourselves in them.
Maybe knowing yourself isn’t about finally figuring everything out.
Maybe it’s about becoming comfortable enough with yourself to keep changing.
